'Power of Constitution trampled dictatorship': Sisodia in his 1st address

    What's the story

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia addressed party workers and leaders for the first time on Saturday following his release on bail in the liquor policy case.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader after he had spent 17 months in custody without a trial.

In his address, he stated that the court used the power of the Constitution to "trample dictatorship," and ultimately, truth and honesty prevailed.

    Address details

'Honesty and truth have won,' says Sisodia

"These tears have given me strength in the last 17 months. I was hoping that justice would be delivered in seven to eight months. It took 17 months but honesty and truth have won," Sisodia said amid applause from the audience.

Sisodia also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of framing AAP leaders in false cases and enforcing strict laws on them.

He drew a parallel between their treatment and how terrorists and drug dealers are dealt with.

"They (BJP) tried to frame Sanjay Singh, Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders in false cases and impose the country's strict laws on us in the same manner as to how terrorists and drug dealers are being dealt with," he claimed.

"If we have to fight this dictatorship, we have to fight unitedly. Tomorrow your turn will also come...I also want to tell the colleagues of the INDIA alliance that we will have to fight unitedly for the country," he said.

'Travesty of justice' to continue his incarceration: SC

The apex court granted bail to Sisodia, stating that it would be a "travesty of justice" to continue his incarceration without significant progress in the trial.

Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023, for alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22.

He was later arrested by the ED on March 9, 2023, in connection with a money laundering case.
