CVC probe into Kejriwal's 'Sheesh Mahal' over building norms violations

    What's the story

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has ordered an investigation into the renovation of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence, on the basis of a report by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

The probe will look into alleged building norms violations at 6 Flagstaff Bungalow, also referred to as "Sheesh Mahal."

The property in question covers an expansive 40,000 square yards.

    Complaint filed

BJP leader's complaint sparks investigation into Kejriwal's residence

The CVC's decision to probe was based on a complaint by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijender Gupta on October 14, 2024.

Gupta alleged unauthorized construction and merging of government properties into the new structure at Sheesh Mahal.

He alleged violations of ground coverage and floor area ratio norms had occurred during its renovation.

The CVC registered the case for examination just two days later, on October 16.

    Funds misuse

Allegations of public funds misuse in Kejriwal's residence renovation

On October 21, Gupta filed another complaint, this time accusing misuse of public funds for luxury renovations at Sheesh Mahal. He alleged Kejriwal spent crores of taxpayers' money on extravagant amenities.

The CVC took cognizance of the serious allegations on November 5. A factual report, based on Gupta's complaint, was then submitted by CPWD's chief vigilance officer on December 5, prompting the CVC to launch a full-scale investigation.

    Handle dispute

Controversy over renaming of Delhi CM's official social media handle

In a separate incident, controversy has erupted over the renaming of the Delhi chief minister's official social media handle on X.

The handle "@CMODelhi" was renamed to "@KejriwalAtWork," reportedly on the orders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.

The Delhi government subsequently asked X to restore "@CMODelhi" and provide access credentials to cmdelhi@nic.in.

This came after a plea by the BJP urging Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to intervene in the matter.
