'Memories of 1993 have refreshed': Parvesh Verma on BJP's win

    What's the story

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won a historic victory in the Delhi assembly elections, winning 48 of the 70 seats.

The win marks the party's return to power in the national capital after 27 years, repeating its 1993 assembly elections win.

A major contributor to this victory was BJP leader Parvesh Verma who defeated former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

    Key win

Verma's victory over Kejriwal pivotal in BJP's success

Verma, who defeated Kejriwal by over 4,000 votes, called the victory a revival of past triumphs.

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him a chance to contest from the New Delhi assembly seat.

"The memories of 1993 have now been afresh... I thank all the people that you have made BJP win this many seats that we are going to form the government," Verma said.

    CM announcement

BJP's chief ministerial candidate yet to be announced

The BJP is still to announce its CM candidate for Delhi. Verma said the decision will be taken by the party's top leadership.

Despite facing defeats in these polls, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) witnessed CM Atishi retaining her seat.

Meanwhile, Congress's Sandeep Dikshit came third with a little over 4,500 votes, highlighting the party's continued downfall in Delhi politics.

    Future plans

Verma pledges to fulfill PM Modi's resolves

Verma stressed that under BJP's rule, they will work to fulfill PM Modi's resolves and beautify Delhi.

"Our government will work for Delhi Dehaat and all the regions. All the dreams of Dr Sahib Singh Verma will be fulfilled. All the resolves of PM Modi will be fulfilled. We will beautify Delhi - our national capital," he added.
