Arun Jaitley critical, President Kovind to visit AIIMS: Report

    What's the story

Former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) days ago, is in critical condition, reports Zee News.

President Ram Nath Kovind will pay a visit to the 66-year-old leader, the report added.

Jaitley was admitted to the premier medical facility on August 9 and has been in ICU, since then.

    Looking back

Jaitley was taken to AIIMS after he complained of restlessness

Last week, Jaitley was rushed to AIIMS after he complained of palpitation and restlessness.

In its bulletin about Jaitley's health, AIIMS said, "He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present, he is hemodynamically stable."

A person is said to be hemodynamically stable if the heart pumps blood at required force.

    Do you know?

PM Modi and other senior leaders visited Jaitley

As soon as news of Jaitley's health surfaced, a slew of politicians paid him a visit. Among those who visited him were Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

    Health

Jaitley's health has remained a major concern

On Tuesday, AIIMS revealed Jaitley hasn't been taken out of AIIMS but he is hemodynamically stable. He has been kept under the care of a team of doctors.

Jaitley had taken a long break last year after he underwent kidney transplant. In fact, his health stopped him from presenting the interim budget in February 2019.

In May too, he was admitted to AIIMS.

    Letter

Jaitley himself wanted to be excused from Modi's new Cabinet

A lawyer-turned-politician, Jaitley held important portfolios in PM Modi's first tenure.

However, after the 2019 elections, he requested PM Modi to leave him out of the Cabinet, citing health issues.

"During the last eighteen months, I have had some serious health issues. I would in future, for some time, like to keep away from any responsibility," he wrote in a letter dated May 29.

    Social media

Despite not being Cabinet's part, Jaitley lends support through social-media

A staunch supporter of Centre's policies, Jaitley often writes blogs to explain to the general public why the government is doing what it's doing.

Quite recently, he wrote about the abrogation of Article 370.

"The present decision makes it clear that just as the rule of law prevails in other parts of the country, it will equally prevail in the Kashmir valley," he tweeted.
