    Gas leak reported from CNG pump in Mumbai's Chembur area

    What's the story

    A gas leak from a CNG pump in Chembur led to immediate shutdown of power supply in the area. Adjoining roads were also blocked in order to prevent any more crisis that might occur due to leak.

    Internet services in Chembur have been shutdown. Residents reportedly suffered from suffocation and breathing problems. Rescue work is going on.

    Teenager commits suicide, cops suspect links to Blue Whale Challenge

    The first death in India believed to be linked to the global Blue Whale challenge has been reported. In Mumbai, a 14-year-old boy allegedly jumped to his death from the fifth floor of an Andheri building on July 29.

    Though nothing was found on his mobile phone, in some WhatsApp groups, his friends were seen discussing his death being associated with the suicide challenge.

    Re. 1 clinic saves railway commuter suffering from heart attack

    Railway commuter Sameer Mukri's life was saved when he was rushed to Re. 1 clinic at Kurla station after he experienced severe chest pain and uneasiness.

    Upon examination, doctors found out Mukri had a heart-attack. He was given blood thinners and rushed to Sir JJ hospital for further treatment.

    These clinics are equipped to attend to all kinds of emergency cases at cheap price.

    Liquor ban

    Drink-driving cases drop by 40% near Maharashtra's highways

    With SC banning liquor sale near highways, Maharashtra's highways recorded a dip in drunk-driving cases by 40% during April-June as compared to the same period last year.

    State police data also recorded drop in fatalities and injuries by 11-14%.

    Joint Commissioner of police (traffic) welcomed the declining trend but said it would be too early to assess the long-term impact of SC's ban.

    Cycling tracks

    Govt to implement 'streets with cycle tracks' in 10 cities

    Maharashtra government has constituted a four-member committee to undertake its project, called 'streets with cycle tracks', wherein cycling tracks will be built along arterial roads in 10 leading cities of Maharashtra on a pilot basis.

    The committee will identify roads where cycling tracks can be set up. The cycling routes would then be designed and alterations to the traffic flow would be planned.

    BMC waits for Central govt's approval for Mumbai's aeronautical survey

    With Directorate General of Civil Aviation ordering buildings to cut height, BMC proposed seeking an aeronautical survey of Mumbai's airspace in order to get an estimate of how high buildings can be designed so that they become obstacles in flights' paths.

    The proposal is pending for a year now with Centre.

    BMC said that study will help speed up building construction permission process.

    Building collapse: Homeless residents still waiting for temporary homes

    Residents of the Siddhi Sai housing society who became homeless following the building collapse at Ghatkopar are still waiting for temporary accommodation.

    Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis had promised to provide temporary accommodation to them within two days.

    "We have no clothes, no home. On Sunday, too, we had several meetings, but we are yet to hear from authorities," said one of the victims.
