    Mumbai: Metro security-staff goes on strike; operator seeks police assistance

    Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) that operates Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-I line sought Mumbai Police's help after the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) staff went on strike.

    The contract-based MSF employees are demanding they be made permanent government employees.

    The security staff recruited by Maharashtra Government is deployed for the security of Mumbai Metro.

    MMOPL said Metro-I services remained unaffected due to the strike.

    Metro-I carries over 3 lakh commuters daily

    MMPOL stated that due to the MSF security staff's strike, it sought police assistance and also deployed private security guards at entry and exit points at its 12 Metro stations and Andheri depot.

    More than 3 lakh commuters travel every day by the 11.4km Mumbai Metro-I, jointly owned by Reliance Infrastructure-led MMOPL, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and France's Veolia Transport SA.

    MMOPL spokesperson said: "Today, some MSF staff has not reported for duty without any notice. Keeping in mind the convenience and security of commuters, Mumbai Metro One promptly deployed the alternative arrangements. We have also apprised the issue to state govt., MMRDA, and Mumbai Police."
