    What's the story

After experiencing sweltering heat on Sunday, Mumbaikars have a reason to rejoice.

The IMD has predicted rains from Friday, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

"There is a depression over Bay of Bengal. This will move westward and enter Arabian Sea, and bring moisture to the state," said Ajay Kumar, IMD scientist.

Sunday, the hottest day in March, registered a maximum temperature of 37.8 degrees-Celsius.

    Factors

Sunday's temperature was 6 degrees above normal!

The South Konkan region will get rainfall on Friday, and in the following two days, most parts of Maharashtra will get isolated rainfall, IMD said.

Elaborating on the reason for Sunday's temperature that was 6 degrees above normal, IMD said, "The reason was the low-level circulation over the Arabian Sea near Gujarat, which brought the Northeasterly winds to the coast causing temperatures to rise."

    Data

Days in March known to witness temperatures of 40 degress

On Sunday, humidity level was low. It remained at 85% at Colaba during the day, dropping to 65% by evening. Temperatures in March can go up to 40 degrees. In 2017, the maximum temperature was 38.4 degrees, while it was 38.2 degrees in 2016.
