    Week has not started on a positive-note for Mumbai with news of accidents and deaths taking centre stage.

    Two people lost lives in a freak accident on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway when a massive blaze engulfed their truck.

    An advocate was killed of head injuries in a road accident after his helmet came off.

    HC asks for fidelity to law from lawyers

    The Bombay HC gave a lesson or two on morality to the lawyers, last week.

    The court asked the lawyers to guide the bench, by thorough research rather than misleading it for their client's benefit.

    Observation was made when a lawyer failed to properly research judgements, he relied on to boost his client's case.

    Court reminded lawyers of their duty of fidelity to law.

    Bollywood

    CEO of Himesh Reshammiya's firm commits suicide

    Andy Singh, CEO of Bollywood singer Himesh Reshammiya's music company was found hanging in his Oshiwara residence, on Sunday.

    Singh hanged himself using his mother's saree, who was present at the home along with his girlfriend.

    Police was called after they heard sound of a stool falling.

    No suicide note has been recovered by the police.

    Singh had worked with Himesh for six years.

    Andheri

    Advocate lost life due to unlocked helmet

    An advocate lost his life in a road accident after his bike collided with a tempo, in his attempt to overtake it.

    The deceased suffered severe head injuries as the helmet came off due to the impact because he had not locked it.

    The incident occurred on Jijamata Road in Andheri east.

    Victim was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

    Elections

    51 candidates in local polls have zero assets

    According to Association of Democratic Rights, 51 candidates in fray for second phase of local body elections have declared their assets to be zero.

    8% of the candidates have assets of over Rs.1crore.

    Average assets of all candidates standing in the election is Rs.39 lakh.

    1,184 candidates are vying for 324 seats across Pune and Latur, which are headed to polls on December 14.

    Cheating

    Women duped job-seekers of Rs.2 crores, arrested

    Police have arrested three people, including two women for allegedly cheating people by promising jobs at airports.

    The gang had duped at least 1,300 job-seekers of nearly Rs.2 crore between March and November this year.

    Complainants revealed that they were charged between Rs.10,000 and Rs.40,000 on pretext of a job.

    Accused were operating from a plush office on SV Road, with a dozen employees.

    Palghar

    Tanker carrying chemical explodes, resulting in a pile-up on highway

    A tanker carrying chemical turned into a ball of fire after a truck hit it on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, in Palghar district, on Sunday.

    The collision led to a massive pile-up on the highway, which brought the traffic to a halt for three hours.

    The driver and cleaner of the truck were killed on the spot, while three others suffered 30-40% burn injuries.

    City witnesses worst chikungunya outbreak in five years

    Chikungunya cases have touched a five-year high in Mumbai this year with 60 confirmed cases reported so far.

    Situation in Mumbai is still better than in Pune where 2500 cases have been reported.

    There has been an increase in chikungunya cases across the country with Maharashtra witnessing a 14-fold rise in the disease.

    Doctors still believe that the cases are underreported in the city.

    BMC arranges special screening of penguin exhibit for concerned children

    Two children who had written letters to send penguins back to Antarctica, wee invited for a special screening of yet-to-be-opened penguin exhibit at Byculla zoo.

    Children, studying in standard II to V were educated about the difference between Humboldt and Antarctica penguins.

    BMC was instructed to dispel myths and misunderstandings in the minds of children, after the death of one Humboldt penguin.
