    What's the story

Egypt is one country in the world that is on almost everyone's travel wishlist.

Yes, its gorgeous landscapes and the Great Pyramid are major crowd-pullers but what makes tourists from around the world flock to this idyllic country are also the many offbeat things that they can indulge in.

So when you are there, include these unique activities and attractions in your itinerary.

    #1

Dive in the Lost City of Heracleion

The ancient texts of Egypt feature descriptions of a lost city that submerged deep under the sea thousands of years ago.

Today, you can get a chance to witness it as it rests 6.5 km off Alexandria's coast.

There are about 64 ships, 700 anchors, tons of gold coins, enormous statues standing 16 feet tall, and several ruins of ancient temples - all sunken.

    #2

Explore the City of the Dead

Zawiyyet al-Mayyiteen, located in El Minya, is known as the City of the Dead.

This vast cemetery spans several kilometers, featuring countless white conical domes resembling a sea's gentle waves.

It holds historical significance, as it was utilized by both Muslims and Coptic Christians since the early 3rd dynasty.

When visiting, it is important to dress modestly to show respect for this sacred site.

    #3

    Visit Wadi al-Hitan

Wadi al-Hitan or the Valley of the Whales is a vast terrain of rocks, soil, and fossilized remains of whales!

The bones strewn across the ground belong to a long-extinct suborder of whales known as 'archaeoceti,' indicating that today's whales were once land-based animals.

With the remains first discovered in 1902, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.

    #4

Go for scuba diving at Hurghada

Time for some adventure sports! If you are looking for that adrenaline rush, the Red Sea coast in Egypt is the place for you.

Here you can go scuba diving or snorkeling in its crystal clear waters and capture the essence of this beautiful nation from under the water.

The average cost per person starts approximately at Rs. 16,000.

    #5

Roam on the White Desert National Park

There is a desert near Cairo with large white chalk rock formations, which will make you feel as though you are walking on the moon.

It is white owing to century-old erosion and sandstorms, and what's more interesting is that this phenomenon has also given rise to some natural, unique formations like statues shaped like ice creams and mushrooms.

    You can camp here overnight.
