    What's the story

Bottega Veneta, an Italian luxury brand, is getting a lot of attention for one of its weird creations.

The brand launched a necklace that resembles a telephone cord. More than it being a questionable style statement, it is the price of the jewelry that has taken the internet by surprise.

The piece is priced at $2,000, which amounts to roughly Rs. 1.45 lakh!

    Social media

Diet Prada was the first to post the takedown

A fashion parody page named Diet Prada drew the attention of netizens to this bizarre piece of necklace, which is made of sterling silver and comes with a hook fastening.

Along with the picture, their caption read, "Bottega is the new Vetements (sic)."

The post had a collage consisting of the necklace's picture and a snap showing actual telephone cords, highlighting their respective costs.

    Reactions

The necklace comes in three colors, leaves netizens divided

The necklace, which resembles a coiled telephone cord, comes in three colors.

Talking about the enormous price tag, one user commented, "They are really just reaching into the junk drawer eyes closed and slapping 2K on whatever comes out," while another one called it "ridiculous."

Another appreciated the concept, but said "would not pay more than $25."

    Comments

'Grandma called. She wants her phone cord back!'

Many users had a funny take on the same.

Like, one netizen commented, "Grandma called. She wants her phone cord back!"

Another one recognized its potential as a business plan, and wrote, "Who knew I could sell my old landline chords for $2G's."

Meanwhile, a third user mocked the brand, saying, "Money cant buy taste, but it can buy poor taste."

    Statement

Pretty insulting to those who put effort, says American designer

Reacting to this trend, American fashion designer Natalia Fedner wrote, "So many designers and artisans work their hands to the bone, spend weeks on a single piece - And charge less than this."

"Prices like this on cheap items, just because there's a famous brand attached, is pretty insulting to those who put so much effort. 5 minutes of their labor=2 weeks of ours."
