Must-have makeup tools
If you are a beginner, you probably don't need too many makeup tools. Your kit should have--a beauty blender, foundation brush, powder brush, blush brush, a spoolie, a small blending brush for eyeshadow, an eyeliner brush, and a lip brush.

For the base
Face primers create a smooth base for your makeup products and preserve your makeup during the course of the day.
Buy a foundation with medium and buildable coverage that can be used regularly as well as on special occasions.
If you have dark circles or hyperpigmentation, get a concealer. Buy a lightweight concealer that isn't dense and oily.

Powder and blush
Buy a compact powder closest to your skin tone to set your base.
To add some color, buy a blush. You can either go for a creamy blush or a powder formulation.
The colors will depend on your skin tone--pinks look nice on fair skin, peach and mauve look beautiful on medium skin tones, and berry and warm brown are for deeper skin tones.

Define and shine
Contouring your face, a technique popularized by the Kardashians requires a little finesse.
But if you want to give it a try, you will need the right product and tools.
Buy a contour stick two shades darker than your original skin tone. To blend it, pick up an angled brush.
If you want a nice sheen on your face, pick a highlighter as well.

Add life to your eyes
Keep an eye shadow palette that has a well-balanced combination of mattes and shimmers. Read the instructions and apply accordingly.
A thin line over the lashes can give a beautiful definition to your eyes, so do not skip the liner (liquid or pencil). Practice a little before using it.
A basic black eyeliner and a black kajal are your everyday friends.

Define your eyes further
Although not an absolute necessity, eyebrow pencils are pretty easy to use and help you thicken your eyebrows or give them shape. A mascara can fill your eyes with life. However, practice applying it a few times before you start using it every day.

Finishing touches
Lips must be done in the end, after your makeup is all set and no more changes are needed.
Choose at least two shades of lipsticks--one nude and one bold color, like a red. Pick a glossy consistency as you can easily turn it into matte.
Finally, use a makeup setting spray to ensure everything stays in place for the rest of the day.
