Avoid eating these foods on an empty stomach

    What's the story

We are not alien to the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

And yet, most of us go wrong with the food choices which although healthy, aren't really so on an empty stomach.

Today, let us familiarize you with five common types of foods that you should avoid if your tummy has not been filled for a while.

    Food 1

    Spicy foods

Spicy offerings on the breakfast menu? Definitely not a good idea.

Eating food abundant with spices for breakfast or when you have not eaten something for a long time can irritate your stomach lining and cause nausea, gas, or acidity.

It can also hinder the overall activity and functioning of your gastrointestinal tract, which makes for a bad day throughout.

    Food 2

    Carbonated or aerated beverages

Most people love relishing their meals with carbonated beverages to add that extra fizz and flavor. However, it isn't as healthy as you may think, especially if it is your meal after a long gap.

This is so because they increase your blood sugar levels, decrease blood circulation, and cause stomach discomfort which stymies the digestion process and metabolism rate.

    Food 3

    Citrus fruits

Fruits for breakfast are a good idea, provided they aren't citrus.

The reason? Well, they can increase the acid production in your belly when consumed on an empty stomach, putting you at risk of experiencing acid reflux.

With that said, you must avoid eating citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, tangerines, etc, and instead include apples, bananas, pears, grapes, and berries.

    Food 4

    Sweets

It is not too 'sweet' to fill your tummy with dishes high in sugar when you are on an empty stomach.

Well, the logic goes the same as aerated beverages - sugary foods shoot up your blood sugar levels and prevent your pancreas from producing the amount of insulin to stabilize them.

Hence, avoid doughnuts, muffins, cereals, etc. for breakfast.

    Food 5

    Baked yeast goods

Baked breads and savories may be tempting but did you know they can lead to stomach aches, gas, acidity, bloating, flatulence, belching, and acid reflux when consumed on an empty stomach?

Well, the active dry yeast in these offerings is to be blamed, for it can cause various allergies, slow down digestion, and create more waste in the body instead of fueling it.
