    What's the story

You might be using a lot of skincare and makeup products to make your skin look glowing and luscious from the outside.

But if your skin is not healthy from the inside, it will reflect on the outside as well.

Certain foods are bad for your skin and can worsen your skin conditions and promote premature signs of aging.

    Read on to know more!

    Context

Here is what our expert says

Amongst lifestyle habits, smoking, alcohol, fried food and sugars are considered the worst for the health of the skin.

Smoking reduces the regenerative potential of the skin and increases wrinkles, while alcohol dehydrates the skin.

Fat deposition under the skin occurs due to excessive fried food and sugar, increasing the inflammation happening in the skin, which is associated with conditions like psoriasis.

    #1

    Coffee and tea

Too much caffeine intake is not good for your skin.

It can lead to dehydration that will ultimately cause wrinkles.

It also leads to cortisol production in the body that has been associated with over-production of sebum that clogs the pores and causes acne.

So, before you chug on huge mugs of tea or coffee, think about how they are affecting your skin.

    #2

    Sugar

Sugar is extremely bad for your skin and can stimulate various skin conditions like eczema and acne.

Consuming too many sugar-loaded foods can also lead to inflammation in the body which in turn causes skin acne.

Sugar-high foods like cakes, chocolates, and ice creams can increase your insulin levels which can lead to skin breakouts, excessive skin oiliness, and unwanted hair growth.

    #3

    Dairy

Packed with components that are related to the testosterone hormone, milk is responsible for stimulating the skin's oil glands that can cause acne and pimples.

The more skim milk you consume, the more acne you are likely to have. Milk contains hormones that cause inflammation which in turn can clog your pores.

Instead of milk, you can have other calcium-rich foods like leafy greens.

    #4

Fried foods like chips and fries

If you want healthy and youthful skin, then stop having fried foods that can trigger acne and inflammation on your skin.

Food items like french fries, potato chips, and nuggets are deep-fried in oil that lead to inflammation in your body and skin.

Packed with high calories and refined carbs, these foods also lead to premature aging and wrinkles.

    #5

    Chocolates

We all love chocolates, but it is important that you consume them in moderation to avoid skin problems.

Too much consumption can trigger acne problems. The carbs in chocolates get metabolized just like sugar which in turn damage the collagen in your skin, leading to loss of elasticity and wrinkles.

High in refined sugar, chocolates increase sebum production and can cause breakouts.
