    What's the story

Kalpana Tiwari, wife of Vivek Tiwari, the unarmed man who was shot at by UP Police has demanded Rs. 1 crore compensation and a CBI investigation into his death.

Kalpana has written to CM Yogi Adityanath demanding action into her husband's death.

On Friday night, Vivek, an employee of Apple, was shot at by officials in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

Here's all about the chilling incident.

    What happened

Backstory: Police shot unarmed Vivek after he didn't 'stop vehicle'

The incident took place at around 1:30 AM on Saturday when Tiwari was driving home with his colleague, Sana.

Lucknow SP Kalanidhi Naithani said that Tiwari had been asked to stop his SUV for checking, but panicked and fled, prompting the constable to open fire.

The bullet grazed Tiwari's neck, and the injured executive rammed his car against an underpass pillar sustaining more injuries.

    Wife's questions

"Even if he didn't stop car, why did they fire?"

Kalpana said when Vivek didn't return after 2 AM, she called both his phones. No one answered.

At around 3:15 AM, a man answered saying her husband is in hospital.

"Even if I believe the police's version that he didn't stop the car, why didn't they go to RTO office, and arrest him from our home. Why did they fire bullets?" Kalpana asked.

    Quote

    Was he a terrorist, asks Vivek's brother-in-law

"Was he a terrorist that police shot at him? We choose Yogi Adityanath as our representative, we want him to take cognizance of the incident and also demand an unbiased CBI inquiry," said Vishnu Shukla, Vivek's brother-in-law.

SP says constable may have fired in self-defense

Constable Prashant Kumar and his colleague Sandeep Kumar were arrested soon. Prashant was charged with murder and an FIR has been registered.

"The constable fired in self-defense believing that some criminals were inside the car as the victim tried to flee after hitting the patrol bike," said Kalanidhi.

But ADG Police Anand Kumar wondered why wasn't the bullet fired at car's tire.
