    Fifty-one out of the 141 people living in a village in Uttarakhand's Pauri district have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Saturday.

    "The village has been declared a containment zone and villagers have been put in home isolation. The reports were received on Friday," Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Satpauli, Sandip Kumar said.

    "They have been put in home isolation and given medicine kits," he added.

    "Residents of Kurkhyal village in Pauri's Ekeshwar block had been showing symptoms of COVID-19 like fever for some time. A Health Department team from the primary health center at Pathisain took samples of villagers for testing on May 11," Kumar said.

    "The village has been declared a containment zone. As a precautionary measure the nearby market at Pathisain has also been closed," he added.

    Anganwadi volunteers asked to remain in contact with patients

    "Six residents of a village adjoining Kurkhyal have also tested positive for COVID-19. Anganwadi volunteers have been asked to remain in touch with the infected people in villages so that they can be shifted to the COVID-19 care center in Satpuli in case their condition deteriorates," Kumar said.

    Recently, there has been a surge in the COVID-19 cases in rural areas across the country.

    Active cases in Uttarakhand stand at 79,379

    On Friday, the state recorded 5,775 new COVID-19 cases thus pushing the state tally to 2,77,585 cases.

    The state has recorded 181 new COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, thus taking the death toll to 4,426 COVID-19 deaths.

    The state has so far witnessed 1,93,780 COVID-19 recoveries, with active cases in the state standing at 79,379.
