After Anupam Kher, Twitter accounts of Kiran Bedi, others hacked

    What's the story

In a multi-person hacking operation, the Twitter accounts of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi, actor Anupam Kher, economist Kaushik Basu, Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta and BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav were hacked earlier in the day.

According to reports, the attack was carried out by a pro-Pakistan Turkish cyber army called Ayyildiz Tim.

    Here's all about it.

    Details

All social media users are at risk: Hackers

The hackers posted a message on Bedi's Twitter account that read, "We are protesting the continuous closure of our social media accounts! As long as you do not remove the embargo that you apply to us, all social media users around the world are at risk!"

Other tweets on the hacked accounts collectively included an 'I love Pakistan' message and images of a missile.

    Information

Hackers spreading malicious links through Twitter DMs

Notably, Kher informed the media that his Twitter account was hacked after he clicked on a Direct Message (DM) sent by Dasgupta, whose account was supposedly already hacked by that time. In response, Twitter has warned users against clicking on suspicious-looking links in DMs.

    Solution

The hacked accounts have now been restored

Once Twitter was alerted to the problem, it suspended the concerned accounts and fixed the issue.

It also restored the blue ticks on these accounts, that ascertain the verified nature of the user, which the hackers had taken off the profiles.

Earlier too, the same Turkish cyber group had hacked the account of India's ambassador to the UN Syed Akbaruddin.
