    Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passes away at 79

    Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passed away today at the age of 79. He is survived by his three children Karan, Kunal and Sanjana Kapoor.

    Kapoor has been ill since some time now. In 2014, he suffered from chest infection. Before that, he underwent a bypass surgery.

    The actor was known for his work in 'Deewar', 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' and 'Kabhie Kabhie', among many others.

    The legendary career of Shashi Kapoor

    Kapoor has left his mark in Bollywood as one of the most legendary stars of the yesteryears. In almost 40 years, he had appeared in 160 movies.

    The Amitabh Bachchan-Shashi Kapoor duo was known for entertaining flicks including hits like 'Do Aur Do Paanch' and 'Namak Halaal'.

    Kapoor won three National Awards, the Padma Bhushan (2011) as well as the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2015).

    The actor came from a celebrated line of artists

    Shashi Kapoor came from a celebrated family. He was the youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor and the brother of Raj and Shammi Kapoor, all stars in their own might.

    Though his brothers were more mainstream, Shashi Kapoor was known to experiment with parallel cinema too.

    He had also acted in some English movies, including 'The Householder', 'Shakespeare Wallah' and 'Bombay Talkie'.

    His love for theatre led to the birth of Prithvi

    Shashi Kapoor's love for theatre was well-known. It was through theatre that he met his wife Jennifer Kendall, daughter of Shakespearana Company's founders Geoffrey and Laura Kendall. Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer later established Mumbai's iconic Prithvi Theatre.
