    What's the story

In a bizarre incident, a 24-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu committed suicide on Thursday after her husband expressed his disapproval with her TikTok obsession.

Reportedly, Anitha, who was a mother of two children, recorded her suicide video and sent it to her husband who lives in Singapore.

The TikTok obsession is clearly getting out of hands and people need to take a step back.

    Beginning

Friend introduced Anitha to TikTok, she got obsessed with it

Anitha's friend introduced her to the famous video app, which led to her untimely death.

According to her family, she was so preoccupied with it that she started neglecting her family and even her children.

Anitha's husband Pazhanivel was also asked to intervene in the matter by the family.

However, she refused to step away and continued making the videos.

    Details

Husband yelled at her and threatened to destroy her phone

Things escalated when one day her daughter got hurt while playing and Anitha remained heedless.

Once again Pazhanivel was approached by the family to talk sense into her.

Furious over the incident, Pazhanivel yelled at Anitha. He also threatened to destroy her phone.

Outraged with his behavior, Anitha decided to take the extreme step and used TikTok one last time.

    Information

Anitha drank poison while recording video, died in hospital later

In her last video, Anitha was seen drinking poison (believed to be a pesticide). She was immediately rushed to Ariyalur's government hospital and later to a private hospital in Trichy. However, she didn't respond to the treatment and died thereafter.

    TikTok

Madras HC had asked Centre to ban TikTok in April

TikTok is a Chinese app, also known as Douyin, which allows users to create short videos with special effects and share them on various social media platforms.

In April, the Madras High Court had asked the Centre to put a ban on the app saying that it encourages pornographic content.

Moreover, media was also directed to stop telecasting TikTok videos.

    Information

HC lifted ban later, but with conditions

The app was briefly banned on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. However, Madras HC lifted the ban later and directed that no one should upload pornographic content. HC warned that any failure regarding the same would lead to contempt of court proceedings.

    Incidents

TikTok has led to suicides and untimely deaths

This is not the first time that Tiktok took lives, quite literally.

In January this year, a 15-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself. She was scolded by her grandmother for being obsessed with the app.

That's not it, a 19-year-old man named Salman was allegedly shot dead by one of his friends while shooting a video on TikTok in April.
