Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh termed it a "deliberate insult" to India's first Sikh Prime Minister.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader also expressed disbelief over this decision, highlighting Dr. Singh's unique position as India's only Sikh Prime Minister.
