Former J&K CM Omar Abdullah seeks divorce to get re-married

The Delhi HC sought the response of Payal Abdullah, the estranged wife of former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah, on his plea seeking divorce on the ground that their marriage has broken down irretrievably and he wants to get re-married.
A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Deepa Sharma issued a notice seeking her reply before the next hearing on 23 April.

Delhi HC also sought Payal's stand on Omar's application seeking early hearing in the matter. Advocate Malavika Rajkotia, appearing for Omar, claimed the court earlier asked if the parties wanted to get married again. She replied in affirmative about Omar's intent, saying "I do".

Omar moves Delhi HC to challenge trial court order
Omar's application seeking divorce has been moved in his petition challenging a trial court decision of 30 Aug'16 dismissing his divorce plea.
He contended their marriage has "irretrievably broken down". The trial court held Omar failed to prove irretrievable breakdown of the marriage.
It also said Omar couldn't prove his claims of "cruelty" or "desertion" which were the grounds alleged by him for divorce.

In his appeal against the trial court order, Omar claimed his marriage had broken down irretrievably and he has not enjoyed conjugal relationship since 2007 and the couple, married in 1994, was living separately since 2009. The couple has two sons staying with their mother.
