    What's the story

The new mobile application of Indian Railways is out, which will let passengers book and cancel unreserved tickets.

In addition, the app will allow passengers to renew season and platform tickets, and check and load wallet balance.

They will also be able to maintain a user profile and view booking history.

The new application is available for download on Android and Windows devices.

    Details

In this new app, R-wallet will be generated automatically

The Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) has developed the app called 'UTS on mobile'.

The R-wallet for passengers will be generated with zero balance automatically once they enter required details like mobile number, name, city, default ticket type, number of passengers and frequently traveled routes.

R-wallet can be recharged at any UTS counter or payment option given in the app.

    The ease

Now, passengers don't need to carry physical ticket

To make journeys hassle-free, the new application does away with the need for physical tickets.

"Whenever ticket checking staff asks for a ticket, the passenger will use 'Show Ticket' option in the app," a statement from railway said.

However, advanced ticketing is not allowed since the app is only for unreserved tickets, the statement revealed.

    The idea

Separately, Indian Railways also planning to live-stream base kitchens

After reports of vendors using toilet water in tea and food served by IRCTC being unfit for consumption, the Indian Railways plans to allow live streaming of base kitchens on the website to promote transparency.

The Railways is also planning to develop an app to allow passengers to keep track of events in the kitchen while travelling.

IRCTC reportedly serves 12 lakh meals daily.
