    Five myths about wine, busted!

    What's the story

Wine drinking is a serious business.

From aging to taste, brands to food pairings, and a long list of "rules", there is just too much literature surrounding wine drinking.

So before you pick the wrong bottle, or just decide to grab a couple of beers out of frustration, here's debunking five common yet baseless myths about wine drinking.

    #1

Myth: Red wine goes with meat, white wine with fish

This is often believed as a general rule of thumb, but it isn't true in all cases. There are just too many exceptions.

You can also pair red wine with some fishes - you just have to be mindful of matching the weights. For instance, roasted salmon/barra might pair well with a bold, red wine.

And the same works the other way as well.

    #2

Myth: All wine gets better with age

If you keep your wine unbottled in the pantry for years in hopes of augmenting its quality and taste, know that it's not really necessary.

As much as 90% of all wine ever produced, is supposed to be consumed within a year or two from the time of preparation.

In fact, many wine lovers actually like their drink young and fresh.

    #3

    Myth: Never put ice

If you like putting some ice to your glass of wine, you are bound to get judged, as the act is often associated with bad taste and low class.

But the fact is that there is nothing wrong in dumping a couple of ice cubes to your wine.

In fact, at times, chilling your wine could bring out its subtle flavors and nuances.

    #4

Myth: The more expensive, the better

Most people actually have zero to little idea about differentiating between expensive wines and cheaper variants.

Several surveys suggest that people tend to link good quality wines with high price, and vice versa. But this is not how it works.

In fact, most of the guesses in such surveys turned out to be wrong.

    Information

Myth #5: Blended wines are inferior

Blended wines are those prepared using two different types of grapes. They are generally cheaper, but that doesn't essentially imply that they are not enjoyable. In fact, when blended nicely, they can be quite flavorful.
