    What's the story

The Supreme Court today declined urgent hearing on a PIL seeking the registration of FIRs based on allegations of sexual misconduct leveled by women across various sectors, part of India's #MeToo movement.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice SK Kaul told lawyer ML Sharma, who had filed the petition, it will come up for hearing in the regular course.

    Here's more.

    Details

PIL also seeks security for women who have leveled allegations

Besides FIRs, the petition also seeks a direction to the National Commission for Women to give security and assistance to women who have come out in the open with their allegations.

Last week, a Delhi court heard the defamation suit by MJ Akbar against journalist Priya Ramani.

Ramani was the first journalist to take Akbar's name after the #MeToo storm hit Indian media.
