    Massive blast at Ordnance factory in Bhandara; 8 killed

    What's the story

    A powerful explosion occurred at the Ordnance Factory Jawahar Nagar in Bhandara district, Maharashtra, on Friday morning around 10:30am.

    According to District Collector Sanjay Kolte, the blast occurred in the LTP section of the facility. At least eight people have been killed, while seven others have been injured.

    The blast was so powerful that it was heard from five kilometers away, per reports.

    Rescue efforts

    District Collector Kolte said that the explosion led to a roof collapse, trapping several workers under the debris.

    "At least 12 people were under the collapsed roof during the explosion. Five of them have been rescued, and an excavator is being used to clear the rubble," Kolte said earlier.

    The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined.
