    Man removes pants, tries to molest Coimbatore house surgeon; arrested

    What's the story

    A man has been arrested for allegly attempting to molest a woman house surgeon at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

    According to The Times of India, the incident occurred around 9:00pm on Wednesday when the house surgeon went to get her bike, parked near the CMCH dean's office.

    The accused, Mayank Galar, removed his pants and attempted to molest her.

    However, she pushed him back and ran to her hostel on the hospital premises.

    Galar fled the scene but was later caught by security guards.

    The TOI report stated that other house surgeons alerted the security guards, who caught Galar at the hospital's casualty ward around 1:00am.

    He was later handed over to the police.

    Based on a complaint by the resident medical officer of CMCH, an FIR was registered.

    Galar has been booked under Section 74 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit and Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.s

    Protest

    Students held protests; demanded better security

    Following the incident, students held protests in front of the dean's office.

    Over 150 house surgeons and postgraduate students participated in the protest, demanding proper security and the deployment of a night patrol team in the hospital.

    A house surgeon at the Coimbatore hospital told TOI, "There is a CCTV camera where the incident occurred, but the camera is not working. Likewise, most of the surveillance cameras are not functioning on the campus."

    The surgeon added, "There are not enough restroom facilities for house surgeons at the workplace due to which we are forced to return to our hostel rooms."

    CMCH dean Nirmala has assured the students and house surgeons that all their demands would be met.

    The incident comes amid the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9, which has sparked nationwide outrage
