    What's the story

    The famous pakode wala from Ludhiana, Panna Singh Pakode Wale, surrendered Rs. 60 lakh to the Income Tax Department, the TOI reported.

    The I-T Department conducted a day-long raid at the two outlets, located at Gill Road and Model Town, of Panna Singh Pakode Wale on Thursday.

    The Department took action after the shop owner refused to reveal his real income.

    Officers stationed at the pakoda stalls to check on sales

    According to the TOI report, the action was instructed by Principal Commissioner DS Chaudhary. The teams of the I-T Department scrutinized the financial records of the pakoda firm.

    However, Joint Commissioner (Range-4), Apul Jaiswal, refused to reveal any details about the raid.

    The Department also kept a check on the daily sales by stationing an officer at the cash counters of the two outlets.

    Shop owner confirms he surrendered Rs. 60L to I-T Department

    After calculating the daily sales and verifying the tax returns filed by the pakoda shop owner, the I-T Department calculated the tax liability of the firm.

    Thought the officials remained mum about the outcome of the raid, the owner of the shop, Dev Raj, confirmed to TOI that he had surrendered Rs. 60 lakh to the I-T Department on Thursday.

    Late Panna Singh had set up a small pakoda shop at Gill Road in 1952 which later became a household name. Panna Singh Pakode Wale is not only famous in Punjab but also in other states, especially for its paneer pakora and dahi bhalla.
