    What's the story

BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, charged with raping an 18-year-old woman last year, is currently being questioned at CBI's Lucknow office after being detained this morning.

Sengar was detained in Lucknow's Indira Nagar and taken to the Hazratganj office at around 4am. CBI has also asked UP's special investigation team to hand over documents related to the case.

    Here's more about it.

    Do you know?

What are the allegations against Sengar?

The victim alleged the Bangaramau MLA and his accomplices raped her, then promised her a job and threatened to kill her family. She also accused Sengar's brother Atul of attacking her father, who was later arrested under the Arms Act and died in judicial custody.

    Proceedings

    How has the case proceeded?

After facing criticism for inaction against Sengar, the Unnao-rape-case-up-govt-orders-cbi-probe/story">UP police lodged an FIR on Thursday for rape, criminal intimidation and abduction.

Further, after the Allahabad HC questioned the UP government's handling of the Unnao rape case, it was handed over to the CBI.

The advocate general also informed that action is being taken against errant officers who didn't lodge the FIR.

    FIR

    What does the FIR state?

The FIR was lodged at about 2:50pm on Thursday on the complaint of the woman's mother.

It says a man identified as Shashi Singh escorted the woman to Sengar's house in Makhi at about 8pm on June 4, 2017 for a job recommendation.

She was held captive there and raped by the MLA in Singh's presence, who is accused of abetting the crime.

    POCSO Act

Sengar charged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act

In the FIR, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 was also cited. The FIR states the girl's date of birth is August 17, 2002, which means she is less than 16. Other reports have put her age at 18.

Meanwhile, CBI has constituted three teams for three separate cases related to the alleged rape, abduction and attack on the victim's father.
