    What's the story

Savitri Jindal, the chairperson of OP Jindal Group and India's wealthiest woman, has filed her nomination as an independent candidate for Hisar, Haryana, after she was denied a ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Her declared net worth is ₹270 crore. This figure includes movable assets worth ₹190 crore and immovable assets valued at ₹80 crore as per her election affidavit.

Forbes India named her the richest woman in India this year, with a net worth of $29.1 billion.

    Wealth breakdown

Details of Jindal's wealth and investments

Jindal's wealth includes cash amounting to ₹48,000 and significant investments in various mutual funds.

She has ₹55 lakh in Axis All Seasons Debt Fund of Funds, ₹164 lakh in Bharat Bond FOF, and ₹251.4 lakh in ICICI Prudential Medium Term Bond Fund-Growth.

Her equity shares are primarily held in family businesses such as Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (₹9,481 lakh) and JSW Steel Ltd (₹625 lakh).

    Asset growth

Jindal's financial journey and political ambitions

In the 2014 assembly elections, Jindal declared her net worth at ₹108.17 crore, showing significant growth over the past decade.

Her total assets in 2009 were approximately ₹44 crore.

The 75-year-old is mother to Naveen Jindal, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP), who was the richest BJP candidate in Haryana in the 2024 general elections with assets worth ₹1,230 crore.

    Political trajectory

Jindal's political career and party affiliations

Jindal has been elected twice as an MLA from the Hisar seat. Her first victory came in 2005 as a Congress MLA, followed by a reelection in 2009.

She was appointed minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in 2013 but lost the assembly election in 2014.

Both she and her son Naveen left Congress earlier this year, with Naveen winning the Kurukshetra seat on a BJP ticket in the 2024 general elections.
