#LoveJihad: I am Muslim, want to live with husband-Hadiya

    What's the story

Ahead of her appearance at the Supreme Court on Monday, Hadiya told reporters at the Cochin Airport that she converted to Islam out of her own free will and wanted to live with her husband, Shefin Jahan.

Accompanied by her parents amid tight security, the 24-year-old paramedical student reportedly said, "Nobody forced me to embrace Islam. I am a Muslim and I want justice."

    Details

Hadiya to appear before the Supreme Court on November 27

The SC, handling its first 'love jihad' case, had ruled on October 30 that Hadiya's consent was of 'prime' importance.

Hadiya is now on her way to New Delhi to present her version in front of the apex court on November 27.

Meanwhile, Shefin Jahan filed a complaint with the Kottayam police on Saturday stating that Hadiya was being forced to reconvert to Hinduism.

    Backstory

Hadiya was Akhila, a Hindu woman, before she married Shefin

Before getting married to Shefin in December 2016, Hadiya was Akhila, a Hindu woman.

Furious about her religious conversion, Hadiya's father approached the Kerala HC, which annulled their marriage in May, calling it a classic case of religious indoctrination.

Shefin then moved the SC, challenging the high court order. The apex court in turn appointed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the case.

    Investigation

NIA probe unfair, biased, says Shefin

The NIA submitted the SC a status report on November 23.

On September 16, Shefin had pled with the SC to call off the NIA investigation, calling it unfair.

The NIA had previously claimed that there was a "well-oiled machinery working in Kerala," indoctrinating and radicalizing Hindu women, forcing them to convert into Islam. It said 89 such cases had been reported so far.
