    What's the story

An IndiGo flight has been grounded following a tailstrike during landing at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.

The incident occurred during the landing of the Kolkata-to-Delhi 6E-6183 flight when its tail reportedly touched the runway, causing damages.

A probe has been launched into the incident while the operating crew has been put off duty.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

The incident occurred barely months after the DGCA launched an investigation into three tailstrike occurrences involving IndiGo Airlines between February and April.

The crew involved in the incidents were reportedly off-rostered and subjected to corrective training based on the findings of the investigation.

A tailstrike happens when an aircraft's tail collides with the ground or another stationary object during takeoff or landing.

    Statement

DGCA shares details on tailstrike incident

While detailing the incident, the DGCA said, "On 11th June, IndiGo A321-252NX (Neo) aircraft VT-IMG while operating flight 6E-6183, sector Kolkata-Delhi was involved in a tail strike while landing at Delhi."

"During the go-around maneuver, probably the bottom of the tail portion of the aircraft touched the runway surface and sustained damages. The operating crew has been off-rostered pending investigation," it said.

    History

When IndiGo's flight entered Pakistan airspace

Separately, on Saturday last week, an IndiGo Airlines flight had to enter Pakistan's airspace for some time to evade bad weather while flying from Amritsar to Ahmedabad.

The flight managed to return to Indian airspace after a while before landing safely in Ahmedabad.

"The deviation was well coordinated with Pakistan by Amritsar ATC via telephone," the airline said.
