    What's the story

Two case studies published by the IIM Calcutta Case Research Centre have won awards in the 2017 edition of the European Foundation of Management Development case competition.

The awards were announced earlier this month.

IIMC Case Research Centre, a Centre of Excellence, was founded in June 2012 to develop a repository of cases.

IIMCCRC's case studies are used by educational institutions and industry practitioners.

    1st case study

SIMsePAY: A unique case study on 'Digital India'

In the inclusive business models category, sponsored by the Institute for Management Development, the IIMC team of Professor Indranil Bose and student Gaurav Gupta won the award for their case "SIMsePAY at YES BANK: Creating Value Through an UnSmart Innovation."

Bose, also the coordinator of the IIMCCRC, said SIMsePAY, as it is popularly called, was remarkably innovative for its simplicity, applicability, and timeliness.

    2nd Case Study

Switchon O'nergy: Aims to reduce production cost of solar products

The second case study "Switchon O'nergy: Social innovation challenges at the bottom of the pyramid" by Professor Ramendra Singh and student Menaka Rao won the award in the sustainable business models category.

"It is very fulfilling to see hybrid organizations such as 'Switchon-O'nergy' get international visibility through this case study," Singh said.

It aims to reduce production and development cost of solar products.

"I am happy that their effort has been recognized by a reputed international agency, which will motivate more colleagues to double their effort in fulfilling our vision," the Director in charge of IIM Calcutta, Professor BN Srivastava said.
