Kerala, Karnataka, among others to receive heavy-rainfall in next 48-hours
What's the story
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that states including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu (ghat areas primarily), Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh will receive heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.
While the southern states will receive rainfall due to a surge in westerly winds, the monsoons in the other two aforementioned states will be intensified by a pressure dip in Bay Of Bengal.

Flood ridden Kerala to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall
It has been predicted that Kerala will get heavy to very heavy rainfall till Wednesday. Normal life in the state has been crippled due to floods in 11 out of 14 districts.
The floods have reportedly taken 40 lives and damaged over 20,000 houses. In the last week, Kerala moved from normal to 20% excessive rainfall.
Notably, India's monsoon deficit was 10% on Monday.
Other parts
Few areas of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh likely to receive rainfall
Swirling winds associated with Bay Of Bengal's pressure dip will bring heavy rainfall in Eastern and North-Eastern parts of India, including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
In Manipur and Meghalaya, these rains will probably bring down the rain deficit of -65% and -45% respectively.
Fishermen were advised against venturing in the sea as rough conditions are likely in West-Central and South-Western Arabian sea.
Reasons
IMD official explains reason behind heavy rainfall
Explaining the reason behind the rains, senior IMD scientist Dr Mrityunjay Mohapatra said, "Whenever there is a low-pressure system, the Southwest monsoon winds gather speed and try to reach the low-pressure area."
As a result, moist winds crash into the Western Ghats and form clouds in country's Western part including Kerala, he added.
Private weather forecaster Skymet agreed with IMD's prediction.
