Mumbai youth solves pyramid-shaped Rubik's cubes underwater; sets Guinness Record

    What's the story

While the rest of us would struggle with a regular 3x3 Rubik's cube, a 20-year-old Mumbai resident has set a new Guinness world record by solving the maximum number of pyraminx (pyramid-shaped Rubik's cubes) underwater.

Chinmay Prabhu, who had attempted the world record on December 9 last year, achieved the feat in just one minute and 48 seconds.

    Here are more details.

    Details

Prabhu received his Guinness World Record certificate in March

Speaking about how he decided on attempting this specific world record, Prabhu said, "I like cubing and swimming, so I thought of mixing the two and creating a new title. I had to ask Guinness to create a new title for underwater cubing as there was no such title on their list earlier."

On March 15, Prabhu received his Guinness certificate.

I also enjoy swimming, so I decided to merge both and solve Pyraminx underwater."πŸ”ΊπŸ’¦ The most Pyraminx (Rubik's cubes) solved underwater is 9. Training

Prabhu trained rigorously for five months

Prabhu also spoke about his preparation for the attempt. "Initially I could hold my breath only for 30-35 seconds. Gradually the breath holding capacity increased to one and a half minutes," he said.

Reportedly, Prabhu started training rigorously five months prior to his world record attempt.

He got fascinated by cubing back in 2015 and taught himself how to solve those online.

Prabhu's target was 4 pyraminxes, but he wanted to overachieve

Originally, Guinness World Records had set a target of four pyraminxes. "I thought if I scored only four or five, somebody will break the record someday. So I took it to nine Pyraminxes," he said.

Prabhu, who also made it to the Limca Book of Records in 2017 for solving a mirror cube blindfolded, now teaches cubing. His youngest student is just 4-year-old.

Never thought he would go this far: Prabhu's father

Proud of his son's achievements, Prabhu's father, Pradeep Prabhu, said, "We had never thought that he will go this far. When he started cubing we encouraged him as it interested him. But we never thought it will go on to be this big."

    Other records

On Friday, Ariel India also set a Guinness World Record

Separately, Ariel India had also broken a Guinness World Record for the largest laundry lesson, where 400 men were taught how to wash clothes as part of #ShareTheLoad campaign. The certificate was received by Anil Kapoor on Ariel India's behalf.

Kumbh 2019 had also famously set three Guinness World Records: largest sanitation drive, largest hand painting theme and the largest parade of buses.
