    What's the story

The schedule for the 2018 GATE is out. The exam will be held in two sessions on February 3,4, 10 and 11 next year.

Results will be announced on March 17. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for counseling, which will commence from April.

In 2018, the GATE is being organized by IIT Guwahati.

    Find the complete schedule here.

    About

    What is the GATE?

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a compulsory requirement to seek admission into Masters and Doctoral programs in Engineering, Technology and Architecture as well as Doctoral programs in some Science courses in IITs, IISc and other government-supported institutes.

Some other institutes of higher education have also mandated GATE for admissions.

Many PSUs seek GATE scores in job appointments.

    Schedule

23 papers in two sessions each for four days

Students will be tested in 23 papers during the four days. Two sessions, a forenoon session (9am-12pm) and an afternoon session (2pm-5pm), will be held each day.

The full list of subjects is available on http://gate.iitg.ac.in.

Admit cards will be issued on the online application processing system on January 5. They have to be printed and brought to the examination hall.

    Difficulty

Only 16% candidates cleared the GATE 2017

In 2017, just 1,29,149 candidates of the 7,87,148 who appeared for the exam, or 16%, cleared the GATE. The previous year, it was 15%.

GATE organizing chairman GJ Chakrapani called the numbers "not very good", but insisted the difficulty level is reasonable. The qualifying mark of 25 is also not high, he added.

"Maybe students aren't taught well or maybe they're not serious enough."
