    Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal's wife alleges dowry harassment

    What's the story

    Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal's wife, Priya Bansal, has filed a case against him alleging dowry harassment.

    A First Information Report (FIR), registered at the Koramangala police station on February 28, also levels allegations of physical and sexual assault.

    The FIR names four persons, including Sachin's parents Sat Prakash Agarwal and Kiran Bansal, and brother Nitin Bansal.

    Allegations

    Sachin took Rs. 11 lakh during wedding, FIR alleges

    According to LiveMint, Priya has alleged that her father spent Rs. 50 lakh on their 2008 wedding and gave Rs. 11 lakh in cash to Sachin instead of a car.

    She alleged that Sachin also pressurized her to transfer properties in his name. When she refused, her in-laws allegedly harassed her.

    She also claimed that Sachin physically assaulted her and sexually assaulted her sister.

    'Husband, in-laws gave me mental, physical torture'

    The FIR reportedly stated, "My husband and in-laws have been giving me mental and physical torture since the wedding for dowry."

    It added, "When my sister Radhika Goyal was in Delhi, Sachin had sexually assaulted her. Sachin had tried to transfer all properties in my name to his name and when I refused, Sachin had physically assaulted me on 20 October 2019."

    Police action

    Sachin applied for bail; police yet to question him

    Sachin was booked under IPC Sections 498A (dowry harassment), 34 (criminal intent) and under Section 3, 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, The News Minute reported.

    Sachin applied for bail on February 29. The order on his bail plea is due Thursday.

    A police official told LiveMint, "We're yet to interrogate the family since they are out of station and the investigation is on."

    Meanwhile, a senior police officer told The New Indian Express that Sachin and his family have gone missing since the case was registered. They have formed a team to nab them and have also approached the Delhi Police for the alleged sexual assault case.

    Sachin, Priya married in 2008; couple has a son

    Sachin and Priya were married in 2008 and the two have a son.

    Priya is a dentist and runs a clinic in Bengaluru. Sachin co-founded the e-commerce website Flipkart in 2007 along with Binny Bansal.

    When Flipkart was acquired by Walmart in 2018, Sachin exited the company, selling his stake for $1 billion.

    He has since founded a firm called BAC Acquisitions Pvt Ltd.
