    Dengue cases surge in Delhi, over 400 infections past week

    What's the story

    Delhi has reported a significant increase in dengue cases, with 401 new infections recorded between September 22 and 28.

    This recent surge brings the total number of dengue cases in Delhi this year to 1,630 as of September 28.

    The month of September alone accounted for 1,052 of the total dengue cases reported this year.

    The city has also reported one dengue-related death this year, with a 54-year-old patient succumbing to the disease.

    Rising numbers

    September witnesses over 1,000 dengue cases in Delhi

    In comparison, the week from September 15 to 21 saw a weekly increase of nearly 300 cases, bringing the total to 651.

    Prior to that, the week ending on September 14 witnessed a rise of approximately 250 cases.

    The South Delhi zone has reported the highest number of dengue cases, followed by the Najafgarh zone.

    Geographic distribution

    Malaria, chikungunya cases also increase

    In addition to dengue, both malaria and chikungunya cases have also seen a significant increase.

    Between September 22 and 28 alone, Delhi reported 67 new malaria cases and 13 new chikungunya cases.

    So far this year, 430 malaria cases have been recorded until September 28, a significant increase from the 321 cases reported during the same period in 2023.

    Chikungunya cases have also risen, with 55 reported this year up to September 28.
