    Delhi Metro's Magenta Line to be fully operational next week

    What's the story

    The remaining 25.6km-long section of the Delhi Metro's Magenta Line, connecting West Delhi's Janakpuri West and South Delhi's Kalkaji Mandir, is set to be opened "within next week".

    Once the Magenta Line becomes fully operational, commuters from South Delhi and Noida will be able to directly travel to the airport via the metro service.

    Opening the Magenta Line has got the CMRS' nod

    "The commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS) has given the mandatory approval to start passenger operations on the 25.6km-long section between Janakpuri West and Kalkaji Mandir," said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a statement on Tuesday. Final paperwork is being completed now.

    The stretch of the Magenta Line

    The 25.6km stretch to be opened next week is part of the 38.23km Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor of the Delhi Metro's Magenta Line.

    Currently, only a 12.6km stretch connecting Botanical Garden and Kalkaji Mandir is operational.

    Once the line is fully operational, commuters from West Delhi will be able to travel to Noida and South Delhi in half the time taken by road.

    The new section will have 16 stations

    The soon-to-be-open 25.6km-long section of the Magenta Line will have 16 stations -Janakpuri West, Dabri Mor, Dashrath Puri, Palam, Sadar Bazar Cantonment, Terminal-1 Indira Gandhi International Airport, Shankar Vihar, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT, Hauz Khas, Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, Greater Kailash, and Nehru Enclave.

    Footfall, wait time

    Other details about the Magenta Line

    Some of the aforementioned stations like Vasant Vihar, Munirka, and RK Puram, which are heavily populated residential areas, didn't have metro stations till now.

    The new line, according to DMRC estimates, will have a daily footfall of over 4 lakh commuters.

    DMRC also said that waiting time between trains in the new line is expected to be five minutes, 14 seconds.
