Delhi: Students till Class VIII to be promoted without exams

The Delhi government on Monday announced that government school students till Class VIII will be promoted to the next class without appearing for examinations.
The government also announced online classes for students of Class XII.
All schools and educational institutions remain shut nationwide due to a 21-day lockdown imposed to limit the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Students till Class VIII to be promoted under 'no-detention policy'
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that government school students from Nursery to Class VIII will be promoted to the next class under the "no-detention policy."
The policy states that no elementary school student (Classes I-VIII) shall be held back in any class or be expelled from school.
Sisodia also holds the Education portfolio in the Delhi Cabinet.
Online learning
Nursery-Class VIII students will be assigned activities through SMS/IVR
Sisodia said examinations for students till Class VIII could not be held due to February's Northeast Delhi violence which was followed by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Sisodia said that students till Class VIII will be assigned one activity/project daily, which will be sent to their parents via SMS or IVR (Interactive Voice Response).
These activities/projects will be graded under internal assessment when schools reopen.
Class XII
Daily online classes for Class XII students
Class XII students would have to register on an online platform to continue classes for two subjects a day, Sisodia said.
The link to register for the online classes will be sent to the students via SMS, he said. Shortly after, similar classes will be held for Class X students.
The government will pay for the internet data package for the students who register.
Outbreak
Delhi reports 72 COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths
Till Sunday evening, Delhi had reported a total of 72 COVID-19 cases, including two deaths and five patients who were discharged and one patient who has migrated out of India.
According to the Health Ministry's website, as of 10:30 am on Monday, India had reported a total of 1,071 COVID-19 cases, including 29 deaths and 99 cases where the patient was cured or discharged.

Strict patrolling at borders to prevent migration of workers: Kejriwal
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that strict patrolling is being conducted at Delhi's borders to prevent the movement of migrant workers.
He said a massive crowd of workers had gathered in Kaushambi, bordering Anand Vihar, after hearing rumors that buses stationed there would ferry them to their home states.
The situation has been brought under control, he said.

Administration ordered to ensure people don't leaves homes: Kejriwal
Kejriwal also said that police and civil administration officers have been directed to ensure that people do not leave their homes. He also said fair price shop owners would be strictly punished if they are caught in any malpractices.
