    What's the story

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has condemned a horrific gang-rape of two women, including an Israeli tourist, near Hampi.

The attack happened on the night of March 6, when the victims were stargazing near the Tungabhadra Canal in the Sanapur area of Koppal district.

Three men assaulted and raped them and robbed their cash and mobile phones.

A male tourist accompanying them was later found dead in the canal.

    Political response

BJP criticizes Siddaramaiah-led government over incident

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka for its inability to maintain law and order.

Amit Malviya, head of the party's IT Cell, accused the state government of focusing on the wrong issues.

He said that "Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Karnataka's most prized tourist destinations."

The incident has triggered widespread outrage and criticism from opposition leaders over the state's priorities and actions.

    Criticism

BJP leaders criticize Siddaramaiah's focus on Muslim girls' self-defense

Malviya also slammed CM Siddaramaiah for declaring self-defense training for Muslim girls, but not ensuring the safety of Hindu women or tourists, adding, "Meanwhile, Karnataka's home minister has yet to even acknowledge the crime."

The BJP has accused the Congress government of ignoring public safety and letting criminals run amok.

Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra criticized the government's inaction, drawing a contrast between the state's glorious past and present lawlessness following the Hampi Utsava festival.

    Government response

Karnataka CM promises swift action against perpetrators

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the assault, calling it a "most heinous act," and assured prompt action.

"Our government is committed to providing protection to everyone, including tourists, coming to the state."

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also promised strict action against the accused. He assured that the police are on the case; two suspects have been arrested and one is still at large.
