    What's the story

With the intention of encouraging youngsters to boost dairy industry as an enterprise, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat are going to promote cow shelters, fisheries as well as vaccination of pets.

Other actors like Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and business leaders like Azim Premji, the Ambanis will also be joining hands with the Maharashtra government in boosting this initiative.

    Information

World-wide, India leads in milk production

India produces largest amount of milk in the world, an estimated 18.5% of the world production. Besides, fisheries account for 1 percent of the country's GDP growth.

    Background

Boosting Agriculture will ensure rural prosperity

Agriculture forms the backbone of India. With 70 percent of the people employed, agriculture accounts for 50 percent of India's GDP.

A study by United Nations projected that improvement in farming practices will yield better productivity in agriculture, livestock and fisheries.

Active promotion will also result in increase in India's farm exports, thereby, bringing price and income stability and contribute to its rural prosperity.

    Information

India supersedes US production of grain

India's agricultural production is way more than US that once used to supply grains to India when it was faced with a domestic shortage. India (worth $367 billion) comes second only to China (worth $1005 billion) when it comes to agricultural produce.

    Background

Purpose of using star power to boost agriculture

India stands second in the world in terms of global agricultural output. Despite this accomplishment, rural masses prefer other vocations over agriculture because it still doesn't provide suitable incomes to them.

Through this initiative, the country's who's who will be able to instil a drive in the rural youth to take up agriculture through innovative means.
