Bhopal gang-rape: Faulty medical report said sex was consensual

    What's the story

With newer instances of dereliction of duty by doctors and policemen coming to light, the Bhopal gang-rape case is getting murkier each day.

The initial medical report of the victim, reportedly filed not by doctors but two post-graduate students, suggested the "sex was consensual".

Though the report was later dismissed, the Congress has accused the Madhya Pradesh government of trying to "dilute" the issue.

Bhopal gang-rape: Fighting over police jurisdiction, cops delayed filing complaint

A 19-year-old UPSC aspirant was gang raped by four rag-pickers for three hours near railway police's Habibganj station in Bhopal on October 31. Despite both her parents in the police, the cops took 24 hours to lodge a complaint because of infighting over police jurisdiction.

    Details

Initial medical report said victim had consensual sex with rapists

The victim was examined at the Sultania Zanana Hospital on November 1. Her initial medical report, according to Hindustan Times, said that she was taken by two boys into a tunnel where they had consensual sexual intercourse.

The report has since then been rubbished by the police and the doctors, with the victim's mother demanding that the license of the erring students be cancelled.

    Rectifying mistake

Sultania Zanana Hospital under scanner for sheer incompetence

An expert committee reportedly spotted the errors made by the students in filing the report. A show-cause notice has been issued to them. Foul play is suspected as someone took a photograph of the report and widely circulated it.

Now under pubic scanner for being shamefully incompetent, the hospital has decided to let only experts write medico-legal reports.

The final medical report is awaited.

    Ouster

Meanwhile, two senior police personnel transferred

It was only after the victim's parents nabbed one of the alleged rapists that the police was forced to file an FIR.

The lackadaisical attitude of the Bhopal police in handling the case has sparked national outrage forcing the Bhopal government to transfer the city's inspector general Yogesh Choudhary and railways superintendent Anita Malviya.

Five cops were previously suspended and a SP was transferred.
