Taking advantage of superstitious beliefs of locals, Ali had been running his business for a long time.

He "treated" both men and women, but gave "special attention" to latter. "He used to treat women in a closed room," locals told NE.

On Wednesday (July 3), Ali took a girl inside a room to "treat her", but allegedly sexually abused her.

Ali returned a day later to "heal" another girl. Staying true to his habit, he took the girl inside a room.

In the meantime, villagers got a whiff of his actions. As Ali was leaving, a mob gathered around and thrashed him.

Though police rescued Ali, he succumbed to injuries and was declared brought dead by Civil Hospital.

Mrinal Talukdar, SP of West Karbi Anglong district, said police received a call at 10:30 AM.

Condemning the mob lynching incident, he said locals should have informed the police. "We could have taken action as per law. Nobody can be above the law," he underlined.
