    J&K: Army personnel shot dead by fellow soldier after altercation

    What's the story

    An Army personnel was shot dead by a fellow soldier as the former who was also his senior reprimanded him for using cellphone in J&K's Uri sector on Tuesday.

    Both the victim officer and soldier who fired the shot belong to the Rashtriya Rifles armoured corps.

    The remorseful incident is being touted as a case of 'fraticide', which means killing of a fellow soldier.

    Inquiry ordered, Army to give a statement later

    Major Shikhar Thapa who became a victim of fraticide, belonged to 71 Armoured Regiment but was attached to 8 Rashtriya Rifles.

    Although officials confirmed the incident, a probe has been initiated in this regard and the army is expected to issue a statement later.

    In 2014 too, an army jawan killed five of his colleagues and later killed himself at a camp in J&K.
