JEE Advanced 2018: Registrations, date, schedule, pattern and more

    What's the story

IIT-Kanpur has announced it will release the admit cards for the JEE Advanced on May 14.

Results of the JEE Main were declared on April 30. 2.3L students cleared the exam.

Surprisingly, only 1.6L of them, or 32%, have registered for the Advanced. This number has been consistently going down from 21% in 2016 to 23% in 2017.

    Here are all details.

    Schedule

Date and time of the JEE Advanced 2018

The Advanced will be held on two shifts on May 20. Paper 1 will be held from 9am-12pm, while Paper 2 will be held from 2pm-5pm.

For the first time, it will be held only in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

Those who clear the Advanced will be eligible for admission into the Bachelor's, Integrated Master's and Dual Degree programs in IITs.

Eligible candidates can appear for mock tests online

Those qualifying for the Advanced can appear for mock tests online. To access them, visit the official website at www.jeeadv.ac.in. There are six mock tests on the home page. Click on one, then login without your username and password to attempt it.

    Stats

Why are qualified candidates dropping out from the Advanced race?

The high dropout was because many preferred to skip the "grueling process of getting through an IIT," instead using their Main score for admission into other colleges, like NITs, an IIT-Bombay professor told HT.

It is tougher for general candidates beyond Main Rank 40,000, who have "less than 10,000 seats to aim for."

Yet others preferred CAT for engineering seats closer to home.

    Data

61% of Advanced applicants from reserved categories

Of the 1.6L candidates who have applied, 97,866 are from Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC). Candidates from general category accounted for only 62,850 applicants.

    Main

Six students scored highest marks in Main this time

12L students had appeared for the Main this time. Among them, 2.3L, including 1.8L were boys and 50,000 girls, qualified for Advanced.

The cutoff for all categories slipped noticeably this time. For the common rank list, it came down from last year's 81 to 74.

The 2018 Main saw a unique moment: as many as six students secured 350/360, the maximum marks.
