    IITs to DU: Protests spread across nation after Jamia violence

    What's the story

    After violence broke out at Jamia Millia Islamia University campus on Sunday, student-led protests spread to other parts of the country.

    Students from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Lucknow's Nadwa College, Delhi University, among others, held protests in solidarity with JMI and the Aligarh Muslim University, where incidents of police brutality were reported.

    Here are some of the protests held or organized across India.

    DU

    Police, CRPF enter DU Arts Faculty amid students' protest

    Some Delhi University students assembled for a protest at the Arts Faculty on Monday morning.

    The students boycotted exams, also demanding a university lockdown as they protested against the Delhi Police.

    Police and CRPF were deployed at Arts Faculty.

    Protests turned violent as students alleged they were thrashed by ABVP goons and the police.

    Several students were detained at the Maurice Nagar Police Station.

    Nadwa College

    Lucknow: Nadwa college students pelted stones at police

    Separately, on Sunday night, some students of the Lucknow's Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama or Nadwa College had attempted to protest outside the campus. However, they were taken inside by college administration after the police arrived.

    On Monday morning, the students pelted stones after the police locked the college from outside.

    Meanwhile, Lucknow SP Kalanidhi Naithani said the situation has normalized.

    Maulana Azad

    Government effigies burnt at Maulana Azad; students boycott exams

    Further, students of Hyderabad's Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) also boycotted their Monday exams requesting the Exam Controller to postpone them.

    MANUU students were also joined by some students from Hyderabad University to protest in solidarity with Jamia and against CAA.

    Earlier on Sunday, MANUU students had staged a protest where they reportedly burned effigies of the government and raised the Indian flag.

    IITs

    3 IITs joined anti-CAA protests

    Soon after the police brutality at Jamia and AMU, torch-wielding students of the IIT-Bombay led a protest march on Sunday night.

    Students of IIT-Kanpur also staged a protest on Monday saying the commitment towards the student community was in jeopardy. Another protest will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday.

    IIT-Madras students also held a protest outside Gajendra Circle on Monday.

    Other protests

    Protests also held at BHU, IISc, Jadavpur University, etc.

    Similarly, protests were also held at Chennai's Loyola College, the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Jadavpur University in Kolkata, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

    On Monday, the Students' Federation of India conducted a protest at Dr. MGR Central Railway station. They also organized protests in Trichy, Coimbatore, and Tiruvallur.
