Kangana Ranaut almost lost 'Gangster'; here's what finally changed

Kangana Ranaut, who made her Bollywood debut with the 2006 film Gangster, recently revealed that she was initially rejected for the role because she was considered "too young."
The actor shared this information during an interview with The Lallantop, while promoting her upcoming movie Emergency.
Gangster also starred Shiney Ahuja and Emraan Hashmi and is best remembered for its songs.
Audition
Ranaut was initially finalized for 'Gangster' after audition
Kangana recalled that she had auditioned for Gangster at a studio in Juhu, where director Anurag Basu was also present.
"He told me that he had received my photos. Then he asked me to do a few things. First, he asked me to do a drunk scene. After that, he asked me to show how I cried," she said.
Rejection
'Bhatt Sahab thinks you're too young for this role'
She added that she was later informed that she had been finalized for the role. However, a few days later, Basu called her to say that she had lost the role.
"He said that Bhatt Sahab [Mahesh Bhatt] is not agreeing as he thinks that 'you are too young for this role.' Anurag even said that Chitrangda has been cast for my role," Ranaut revealed.
Twist of fate
Ranaut won back 'Gangster' role after Chitrangda didn't pick calls
However, Ranaut was eventually cast in the film after Singh did not pick up her phone.
"Anurag called me after a few days and told me that I have got my role back because Chitrangda is not picking up the phone."
Ranaut was eventually praised for her performance and won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
