    What's the story

With much effort and creativity, retailers Topshop and Nordstrom have added two more items to the "weird fashion of 2017" list: while the former released a pair of see-through 'jeans', the latter launched a 'distressed look' pair by caking it with fake mud.

Big brands have been going all-out to see who will take the top honours this time. Here are our choicest picks.

    Topshop

Topshop's Clear Plastic Jeans: A little too revealing?

British fashion label Topshop described its MOTO Clear Plastic Straight Leg Jeans: "Think outside the box with these out-of-the-ordinary clear plastic jeans- guaranteed to get people talking. Take the look to the extreme with a bikini and sequin jacket or dress down."

    "Machine wash," they warned.

Interested parties could buy a pair for $100 (Rs. 6,400). Students are entitled to a special discount.

    Information

In fact, this was Topshop's second attempt

This is not even the first time Topshop launched eyebrow-raising products. Last month, it displayed the Clear Knee Mum Jeans at $95 (Rs. 6,100). Talk about perseverance.

    Nordstrom

Nordstrom: 'Jeans made to look like you work hard'

Meanwhile, American retailer Nordstrom offered on sale its new Barracuda Straight Leg Jeans.

"Heavily distressed medium-blue denim jeans in a comfortable straight-leg fit embody rugged, Americana workwear that's seen some hard-working action with a crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you're not afraid to get down and dirty," it said.

Customers would have to shelve out $425 (Rs. 27,000) for a pair.

    Vetement

With Vetements' jeans, you can display your behind!

Earlier this month, fashion brand Vetements, in collaboration with Levi's, released a pair of jeans with a zip in the back - so enthusiasts can expose their bare bottom.

On top of that, two other zips on the back of both legs allow users to chain down all the way to the bottom.

They were priced at a steep $1910 (Rs. 122,400).

    Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters: A 'top crop' so cropped...

Urban Outfitters joined the race in March with their new tank top - the Extreme Crop Tank Top Shrug - which is see-through, and so small it barely covers the innerwear.

Priced at $16.50 (Rs. 1,060), the product was soon removed from its website though.

Tweeter @Jennrubenstein clarified for all those questioning the item: "That is a necklace."

    Do you know?

Vogue predicted clear plastic jeans trend two years ago

Interestingly, Loewe's Spring/Summer 2016 collection, that it debuted in October 2015, included several models in clear plastic jeans. Vogue's Fashion News Editor Steff Yotka predicted it might just become a thing "in the years to come".
