    What's the story

Aquaman made a huge splash on the box office and went on to become one of DCEU's biggest movies.

Having garnered critical and commercial acclaim, the film joined the billion-dollar club.

Now, almost two months after the movie hit the theaters, the producers, Warner Bros. has started to bring the pieces together for a much-anticipated sequel.

    Read all about it here.

    Makers

Studio bringing old team back for the upcoming movie

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the co-writers of the first Aquaman movie have been tasked with penning down the script for the sequel.

James Wan, the director of the first film is set to return as a producer along with Peter Safran.

However, for the time being, it remains unclear whether Wan will also be returning to direct the sequel.

    Delay

Surprisingly studio took a while before ordering sequel

Considering Aquaman's success, it is surprising that Warner Bros. delayed the order of a sequel.

It is extremely rare in Hollywood nowadays to wait so long before putting a sequel into motion.

While some studios order follow-ups even before the franchise film has rolled out, most wait for the Monday after the opening weekend or opening week to discuss the possibility of a sequel.

    Do you know?

Wan in no rush to return, but sequel is happening

Perhaps the delay can be explained by Warner Bros. not wishing to rush Wan and his collaborators. Notably, Wan is still noncommittal about returning as a director. However, hiring Johnson-McGoldrick as writers have set the wheels in motion for Aquaman's sequel.

    Spin-off

Along with sequel, a spin-off movie is also in works

The world of Aquaman and Atlantis is quickly expanding within the DCEU.

For those unaware, a spin-off movie has also been ordered, titled The Trench.

As we reported, the spin-off will be based on the former Atlanteans who turned into ravenous creatures, that Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry or Aquaman and Amber Heard's Mera first encountered in their search for the trident in the movie.
