    'The Office' goes Aussie: First look, plot details, release date

    The popular comedy series The Office is set to get an Australian spin-off.

    The streaming platform Amazon Prime Video recently announced the release date for the upcoming series and shared a first look of the new boss.

    Felicity Ward will be seen as the franchise's first-ever female lead, playing Hannah Howard, managing director of Flinley Craddick packaging company.

    'The Office' Australia to premiere on October 18

    The Australian Original The Office will premiere all eight episodes on October 18, exclusively on Prime Video.

    The series is a fresh take on the hit comedy show, which originally aired in the UK and later got a popular US version that starred Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer.

    This is the 13th global adaptation of the workplace mockumentary since its inception over two decades ago.

    Ward to play the new boss in 'The Office'

    Ward, known for her roles in Time Bandits, Wakefield, and The Inbetweeners 2, will be seen as Hannah Howard in The Office.

    The plot revolves around Howard's struggle to keep her "work family" together when she learns that the head office plans to shut down her branch and shift everyone to remote work.

    The series will follow her outrageous schemes as she tries to meet impossible targets.

    The Office also features Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmidt, Zoe Terakes, Pallavi Sharda, and Claude Jabbour.

    Guest appearances include Susie Youssef, Justin Rosniiak, Carlo Ritchie, Rick Donald, and Chris Bunton.

    The show is a collaborative effort of BBC Studios Australia, Bunya Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios. It was developed by Julie De Fina and Jackie van Beek who also serve as executive producers alongside Kylie Washington.

    Prime Video highlighted the enduring appeal of The Office, stating, "It was over 20 years ago that the world was introduced to the wonderfully bleak mockumentary world of The Office—created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant."

    "While many aspects of the workplace have changed since [the original], especially post-2020, the physical office is a timeless precinct for comedy and one that will never tire an audience as long as the characters are faced with relatable dilemmas, and entertaining and hilarious."
