    What's the story

The first week of September witnessed a fierce competition at the box office as Hollywood movie 'The Nun' was released along with JP Dutta's 'Paltan' and Sajid Ali's 'Laila Majnu'.

It was indeed a treat for cinema-goers as they had an option to check out different genres.

And three releases ensured fight at the box office was more intense.

    Here's breaking down the result.

'The Nun' gets electrifying start at the box office

Hollywood's horror drama 'The Nun' has managed to rule the box office and scare away the competition.

The movie, which is the fifth instalment of 'The Conjuring' series, has got rave reviews from the audience.

'The Nun' made an incredible collection of Rs. 8 crore on its day of release which is the best opening day numbers for 'The Conjuring' series in India.

    BO report

'Paltan', 'Laila Majnu' fail to impress the audience

On the other hand, JP Dutta's multi-starrer 'Paltan' failed to bring the audience to the theaters and had a slow start.

The movie was in the headlines not just for its ensemble of casts but because it marked Dutta's return after a gap of 12 years.

Besides, 'Laila Majnu' also had a weak opening.

Both the movies, collectively, earned just Rs. 2 crore.

Horror genre is leading at the box office

'The Nun' isn't the first horror movie, in the recent past to witness such a flying start.

Earlier, Amar Kaushik directorial 'Stree' too had managed to leave the audience intrigued and is going strong post a week of its release.

The movie has made a collection of Rs. 64.78 cr so far and is inching towards the coveted Rs. 100 crore club.
